Leland has been a pioneer in the application of communication psychology [human communication sciences] and strategic planning to corporate and organizational communication, and integrated strategic communication management for more than four decades.
He has particular expertise in strategic communication analysis and design, employee and consumer behavior, crisis management, organizational and work environment culture development, public policy development and issue management.
His analysis, design and implementation of organizational and employee cultural development has ranged from startups and family businesses to global enterprises.
He is a frequent executive communication coach and confidential consultant to CEOs, C-suite officers and boards of directors. He introduced the nation’s first corporate strategic communication management department in the 1970’s, designed and taught the nation’s first graduate strategic communication management curriculum, at Michigan State University’s College of Communication Arts & Sciences in the 1980’s, and co-founded the nation’s first commercial communication arts and sciences-based human communication professional services firm in 1986. Headquartered in Detroit, the firm has grown in 30 years from a startup dream to a global strategic communication management and marketing firm with recent Asia Pacific Operations in Pune, India; and Middle East representation in Beirut, Lebanon.
